Medicare Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

🔐 What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your Medicare.gov account. After entering your password, you'll also need to enter a code sent to your phone or email.

Common 2FA Problems & Solutions

I'm not receiving my verification code

Try these solutions:

  • Wait 2-3 minutes — codes can be delayed
  • Check your spam/junk folder (for email codes)
  • Make sure your phone has signal
  • Request a new code (click "Resend")
  • Try voice call option instead of text
  • Verify your phone number is correct in your account
I changed my phone number

If you can still log in:

  1. Log into Medicare.gov
  2. Go to Account Settings
  3. Update your phone number

If you can't log in, contact Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 to update your information.

I lost my phone

Options if you lose access to your phone:

  • Try the email verification option
  • Use backup codes if you saved them
  • Call Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 for help
  • If using Login.gov or ID.me, contact them directly

Verification codes are time-sensitive. Make sure:

  • You're using the most recent code sent
  • You enter it within 10 minutes
  • You're not copying extra spaces
  • Request a new code if it's expired
