Medicare Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
🔐 What is Two-Factor Authentication?
Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your Medicare.gov account. After entering your password, you'll also need to enter a code sent to your phone or email.
Common 2FA Problems & Solutions
I'm not receiving my verification code
Try these solutions:
- Wait 2-3 minutes — codes can be delayed
- Check your spam/junk folder (for email codes)
- Make sure your phone has signal
- Request a new code (click "Resend")
- Try voice call option instead of text
- Verify your phone number is correct in your account
I changed my phone number
If you can still log in:
- Log into Medicare.gov
- Go to Account Settings
- Update your phone number
If you can't log in, contact Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 to update your information.
I lost my phone
Options if you lose access to your phone:
- Try the email verification option
- Use backup codes if you saved them
- Call Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 for help
- If using Login.gov or ID.me, contact them directly
The code I entered says "invalid"
Verification codes are time-sensitive. Make sure:
- You're using the most recent code sent
- You enter it within 10 minutes
- You're not copying extra spaces
- Request a new code if it's expired
