How to Create Your Medicare.gov Account

Need to set up your online Medicare account but feel overwhelmed? Don't worry. This video guide breaks down the process just like a simple recipe. Ensure you gather your "ingredients" from the list below before hitting play on the video!

What You Need Before Starting

Your official red, white, and blue Medicare Card
Your Social Security Number
A valid personal email address
Your Part A Coverage Start Date (found on your card)

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Visit the Official Medicare Portal

Navigate to medicare.gov and click the 'Create Account' link located in the top right corner of the homepage. You will be redirected to the secure portal.

2

Enter Your Medicare Number

Type in your Medicare Number exactly as it appears on your card (do not use dashes). You will also need to enter the coverage start date for Part A.

3

Verify Your Identity

The system will ask you several questions based on your history to verify it's really you. Answer these carefully. Alternatively, you can use Login.gov or ID.me for faster verification.

4

Create Username & Password

Choose a username you can remember (many use their email). Your password must be at least 8 characters and include a number and special character.

5

Confirm Your Email

Medicare will send a verification link to your email address. Open your email, click the link, and your account will be fully activated and ready to use!
